HHC vs. HHC-O vs. HHC-P | Which Cannabinoid Is Better?

Have you been struggling to keep up with the ever-expanding list of psychoactive cannabinoids entering the hemp scene?  Well, we don’t blame you.  But, by not having a clear understanding of what each cannabinoid type can offer, you might just be missing out.  This time, we’re gonna compare the three HHC-based cannabinoids against one another, to see how they differ from one another, and to explore what they share in common.

HHC (Hexahydrocannabinol)

How it’s Made: HHC is the only naturally occurring cannabinoid of the 3, being present in the hemp plant’s seeds and pollen.  HHC is a hydrogenated analog of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), meaning that it contains hydrogen molecules.  HHC is known to mirror the effects of HHC, while having impressive shelf stability due to its hydrogenated nature.

Psychoactive Effects: HHC’s high is milder than HHC-O’s or HHC-P’s.  It’s about as intoxicating as delta 9 THC, but perhaps slightly milder than that as well.  If you’re a beginner to psychoactive cannabinoids, HHC is the ideal starting point for this reason.  The high, like delta9’s, can offer an uplifting effect on mood that helps ease away stress, while being fairly hazy, like delta 9.

Non-Psychoactive Effects: Hexahydrocannabinol has not yet been tested for its properties related to things like pain, anxiety, sleep, appetite, etc., because it hasn’t been around long enough.  But, HHC has been reported to behave just like delta 9 in pretty much any way, given the fact that the cannabinoids are analogs of one another.  So, unsurprisingly, people who have taken HHC have reported improvements in mood and physical discomfort levels, along with nausea relief and an increase in appetite.

HHC-O (Hexahydrocannabinol-O Acetate)

How it’s Made: HHC-O is a semi-synthesized form of HHC, which has been combined with an acetate (acetic anhydride) to change its molecular structure – a process also used to turn THC into THC-O, another very popular, powerful cannabinoid on the hemp market.  This process increases the cannabinoid’s bioavailability, by allowing it to cross the blood brain barrier more efficiently, thus enabling it to act on cannabinoid receptors in the brain more powerfully for a stronger effect than HHC.

Psychoactive Effects: HHC-O is stronger in terms of its psychoactive effects than HHC – and even delta 9 THC.  It was designed that way, and may be around 3x as potent, give or take.  HHC-O is made through the same methods involved in producing THC-O, a famously euphoric form of THC that is far more intoxicating.  HHC-O likely delivers powerful feelings of euphoria as well, and many say it delivers an equally potent body high that may lead to couchlock.

Non-Psychoactive Effects: HHC-O is extremely new to the hemp market, and what that means is that researchers haven’t yet gotten their hands on it to explore its physiological effects.  Beyond its psychoactive abilities, we don’t have any research-based information about what it can do in the long term.  But, HHC-O is a cannabinoid and so we know that it does play a role in regulating processes of the body through the endocannabinoid system.

Anecdotally, people who use it say that it offers relief from physical discomfort, nausea and stress, which isn’t surprising considering the fact that the cannabinoid is simply a stronger form of HHC, and HHC is known for basically mimicking the effects of delta 9 THC, a cannabinoid with far more scientific research behind it.

HHC-P (Hexahydrocannabiphorol)

How it’s Made: HHC-P is a totally new cannabinoid which, like HHC-O, is partially synthesized through an isomerization process.  HHC-P is to HHC what THC-P (tetrahydrocannabiphorol) is to delta 9 THC, for reference.  In other words, HHC-P is basically the far more potent version of HHC, and it may even be the strongest cannabinoid on the market right now.

Psychoactive Effects: HHC-P is the most powerful of all when it comes to its high.  It works on CB1 receptors at possibly 30 or so times the rate of traditional HHC, but that doesn’t mean it’s 30 times as intoxicating – like we said, it may be closer to 10x (+).  The high may also be intensely euphoric, similar to THC-P.  Because HHC-P is the newest of all, we know the least about it, and aren’t as easily able to refer to the experiences of others who have tried it.

Non-Psychoactive Effects:  HHC-P is a cannabinoid, and so we know that it works with the body’s endocannabinoid system beyond producing intoxication, to regulate different bodily processes through interaction with cannabinoid receptors in the nervous system, digestive system, immune system and more.  But, HHC-P also happens to be the cannabinoid we know the least about, as we said above.

That’s because it’s so new that not only has there been no research done on its potential, but there isn’t anyone who has used it long-term, who has been able to record its overall effects on functions of the body.  Because it’s so similar to HHC and delta 9, albeit much stronger, it likely offers relief from physical discomfort, effects on appetite, nausea, mood and more.

Which Version of HHC Will You Choose?

HHC, HHC-O, and HHC-P each promise a gratifying psychoactive high, and it mainly comes down to just how high you want to get.  All of these awesome cannabinoids provide the same general properties, including a high that can be both soothing and euphoric, along with a release of tension throughout the body.  But, their potency levels are distinctively unique, and so you’ll need to consider your tolerance to hemp’s intoxicating effects along with what your goals are when consuming cannabinoids overall.
