Another psychoactive cannabinoid is making its way into Binoid’s product selection, and any fan of the legal highs we can get from hemp is going to want to get their hands on it. Tetrahydrocannabioctyl (THC-JD or THCjd) comes with a lot of promise given its apparent potency that is somewhere between delta 9 THC and THC-P.Â
However, as is always the case, we need to consider the possibility of failing a drug test due to taking this naturally occurring compound, since failing a drug test can be a big problem if you’re tested for work, probation or some other important aspect of your livelihood.

Will Taking THC-JD Cause a Failed Drug Test?
Keep in mind that THCjd’s effect on a drug test has not yet been studied. In other words, there’s no official source to reference when trying to figure this out for yourself. And, because the cannabinoid is so new, we don’t even have the ability to reference anecdotal evidence that leans toward one direction or another.
But, what we do know is that to date, every THC compound derived from cannabis has shown to cause a failed drug test result. That’s because these cannabinoids, including delta 9 THC, delta 8 THC, THC-P, THCV, etc., are all structurally similar enough that the body metabolizes them using the same vehicle – an enzyme called THC-COOH. This enzyme is responsible for breaking down THC in the body so that it can be excreted through urine, sweat, etc.
THC-COOH also happens to be what most drug tests are looking for – not traces of marijuana, or delta 9 THC. So, taking any THC-based compound seems to put you at risk of failing a drug test, since all will cause the body to produce THC-COOH.
Which Drug Tests Could Potentially Pick Up THC-JD
Having an understanding of the different drug tests that can be administered to you is very important indeed. Below are the most common drug tests administered by either workplaces, law enforcement agencies, etc. here in the United States.
- Urine Tests: Most drug tests that are administered in the United States are urine tests, accounting for about 90% of the tests used. This is the type of test you’re likely to take if you’re being tested by an employer or a probation officer. The reason why is because these tests are extremely reliable, have a very fast turnaround time and are inexpensive, not to mention easy to administer. Urine tests can show if you’ve taken a THC compound anywhere from 2 to 60 or so days after the last dosage.
- Saliva Tests: What you will usually be given at a traffic stop, if a law enforcement officer suspects that you’re driving under the influence. A small sample of the saliva is taken, to show if you have consumed any drugs within the last 10 hours.
- Hair Strand Tests: There are not common to administer, and while some companies may use them for employees, they’re more associated with autopsies, since they can show if a person had drugs in their system at the time of their death. Hair strand tests show whether you’ve used certain substances within the last 3 months, but they can be quite unreliable, and results can be nullified if a person has dyed their hair. They’re also very expensive and have a long turnaround time.
- Blood Tests: Are administered to determine only if a person is presently intoxicated. They’re typically given at hospitals and similar settings to see if intoxication is playing a role in the symptoms a person is experiencing.
- Perspiration Tests: These tests are very rare and expensive, and usually used for clinical studies only. A patch is applied to a person’s skin and left there for 14 days, picking up their sweat which will be analyzed.
What Might Then Influence the Likelihood of Failing a Drug Test?
If you’ve taken THC-JD and discover that you have a drug test coming up, don’t panic just yet. As you will soon see here, you’re not guaranteed to fail as there are a lot of factors that influence what the outcome will be.
#1: When and How Frequently You Used THC-JD
The last time you took THC-JD matters a lot. If it’s been at least a month, chances of passing your test are very high. Also, if you only took it a couple of times, you’re more likely to pass than if you were a daily user, because the more often you took it, the more THC-COOH has accumulated in the body and the longer it will take to clear.
#2: How You Metabolize Cannabinoids
For complex reasons, some of us metabolize cannabinoids and other substances more quickly than others, depending on things like immune function, diet, thyroid function and more. It’s believed that if you’re presently ill, you may metabolize cannabinoids more slowly.
#3: A Product’s Overall Potency Level
Keep in mind that THC-JD products may come in different milligram strengths – for instance, 5mg gummies vs. 20mg gummies. The more milligrams of THC-JD you’ve taken, the longer it will take for the cannabinoid to metabolize via THC-COOH, and the longer you’re at risk of failing your test. Pretty straightforward right there when it comes to this.
Bottom Line: Best to Play it Safe with Any Psychoactive Cannabinoid
Overall, it’s probably best to avoid THC-JD if you know that you’re going to be drug-tested sometime in the next month. The risk of failing is just too high, and it’s not worth losing your job or livelihood because you wanted to try a new cannabinoid. After you’re no longer tested, you’re free to explore THC-JD and enjoy it for the potent high that it can provide. And, if you have taken THC-JD and have a drug test coming up, fortunetly, you’re not guaranteed to fail.
