Is THC-O Safe?

Did you know that more people are getting acquainted with THC-O-acetate (THC-O)?  THC-O is a powerfully psychoactive cannabinoid estimated to be about 3x as intoxicating as delta 9 THC.  We know that THC-O and THC-O products has the rare distinction of being a partially synthesized cannabinoid, and naturally, this can cause some people to feel concerned about its ultimate safety.

So, is THC-O safe, or are we downplaying certain risks associated with it?

Is THC-O Harmful to the Body?

We appreciate that some people may be worried about certain risks of taking THC-O-acetate because, once again, it’s a partially synthesized cannabinoid, produced by mixing THCA with acetic anhydride to create a more potent form of THC.  But, overall, THC-O has not been associated with any major adverse reactions since its development more than 50 years ago.  Basically, if this cannabinoid caused serious side effects, we’d likely have heard about it by now.

To date, there has been no report made about a fatal overdose caused directly by taking any cannabinoid.  This should put your mind at ease, and make you feel more comfortable giving THC-O a try.

One thing that you do need to be mindful of, however, is the potential for an interaction between THC-O-acetate and certain medications (prescription or non-prescription).  If you’re on a medication, best to speak with your doctor before taking a THC-O product.  That’s because THC-O in general may suppress CYP3A4, an enzyme that metabolizes many popular drugs.  If these drugs can’t metabolize, they can accumulate in the bloodstream, which can become dangerous after a certain point.

What Kinds of Side Effects Can Come from Taking THC-O?

Overall, there are no known major side effects associated with THC-O-acetate  But, some people may experience mild and temporary side effects.  These side effects happen more frequently among those users who are taking higher-than-normal dosage amounts, as well as those who have a low tolerance to the effects of THC-O, which includes beginners.

These specific effects include the following:

  • Dry mouth
  • Dry eyes
  • Reduced blood pressure/increased heartrate
  • Anxiety/paranoia
  • Dizziness/lightheadedness
  • Grogginess
  • Cognitive impairment
  • Headache

The side effects above usually start to wear off with the psychoactive effects, and rarely become severe.  If they do become severe, or if they last for longer than the high itself, then you might want to seek medical attention, although this would be incredibly rare.

Does THC-O Cause Impairment That Can Be Dangerous?

We do need to mention that THC-O-acetate is a highly intoxicating substance.  Meaning, it can make certain activities particularly risky, such as driving.  Driving while intoxicated can cause serious harm to you and others, since THC-O can impair your awareness and motor skills.  The same goes for any type of activity in which there is some risk involved, and even requires your full focus and coordination.  Be responsible and wait until after its effects have worn off before engaging in these types of tasks.

Is THC-O Safe for Children or Pets?

THC-O-acetate is considered safe for adult humans, in the general sense, due to our nervous systems knowing what to do with this cannabinoid’s intoxicating properties.  But, at the same time, THC-O can be highly dangerous for both children and pets, whose nervous systems have not developed in a way that can process these effects.  There can be major risks when administering THC-O to either children or animals, including neurotoxicity.  THC-O is STRICTLY an adults-only cannabinoid.

Ways to Know You Have a Safe THC-O Product

Now that you have a better understanding of how THCO acetate is generally harmless as long as you’re taking it as an adult, you still have to keep in mind, there will always be shady companies on the fringes of our industry who are using potentially unsafe ingredients to formulate their products.  To avoid ending up with a THC-O product that could ultimately cause harm, you just need to follow these simple tips below.

Tip #1: Buy Only from Trusted Companies/Manufacturers/Distributors

A company/manufacturer/distributor with a strong reputation is unlikely to risk it all by sneaking ingredients known to cause harm into their products.  Hence, avoid using those ingredients known to be unsafe to possibly go against the FDA’s requirements along with the 2018 Farm Bill

Find a place that has a strong reputation within the industry, and look through their reviews, as we’ll be getting into more shortly, since other customers will be quick to report whether or not a product they’ve purchased caused harm. Binoid is one of the most trusted THC-O brands with amazing quality, potency and safety.

Tip #2: Look at Third-Party Lab Results

All hemp-based companies must have their products lab-tested by a state-licensed third-party facility.  Plus, these lab reports should always be made accessible to the public.  This is where you can see whether or not a THC-O product contains impurities like toxins, contaminants, bacteria, and anything else that can cause harm to the body.  As a top THCO brand, Binoid has lab results on their website. You can check out Binoid’s COA’s displayed on their ‘About’ page here.

Tip #3: Read the Ingredients

Yes, always read the list of ingredients provided by the manufacturer before buying a product.  Steer clear from products that are loaded with synthetic ingredients or artificial fillers that don’t actually offer any value to the quality or properties of the THC-O.  From there, you will know right away if there’s an ingredient in the formula that is associated with some form of bodily harm.

Tip #4: Check Those Real User Reviews

Reading real reviews (reviews that sound real and aren’t duplicated) on a company’s website, in order to gather insight on other users’ experiences with that said THC-O product(s) that you have your eye on, before making a purchase is key.  Binoid CBD has over 3,000 real five star reviews of THC-O displayed on the website.  That gives Binoid a higher trust factor than other brands in our industry that’ve potentially created a reputation for scamming customers.

Bottom Line: Taking THC-O is Generally Safe

At the end of the day, there is no real reason to be worried about taking THC-O-acetate.  This cannabinoid is not inherently dangerous in terms of its impacts on a person’s health, and most THC-O products on the market are made with high quality and safety standards.

If you want to feel certain that you’re using authentically high-quality THC-O, stick to a trusted retailer like Binoid, where you can count on lab-tested hemp compounds and clean, carefully sourced ingredients that are gentle on the body.  Our products contain only the purest THC-O-acetate and terpene extracts, and never include ingredients that are known to cause harm in any sort of way.
