Did you know that we’re witnessing a fast-growing interest in concentrates at the moment, especially as many of them are making their way into vape cartridges, both for 510-threaded pens, and those that are found in disposable vapes? Well, now you do. And, in particular, we’re seeing diamonds take centerstage, as well as liquid diamonds, which incorporate diamond crystals into sauce.
That’s why we want to compare diamonds (and liquid diamonds) to a somewhat similar-looking concentrate known as “crumble”. We’re gonna find out how these two differ from one another, as you will discover that they actually do have many distinctive qualities.

Contender #1: THC Crumble
First up, we have crumble, which is a high-potency concentrate that has a texture similar to honeycomb, or feta cheese, as some describe it, and a rich amber-gold hue. It’s made by concentrating the extract of raw cannabis material until you get a far higher potency per gram than that of a standard extract. Crumble is dabbed, meaning that you can place crumble on your dab nail or banger, or into your dab vape pen, to melt the concentrate at a high temperature so that it vaporizes instantly.
Crumble Creation Process
The process of making crumble is the same as making shatter, and the two have the same concentration level. It begins with creating your extract, by applying a solvent (usually butane) to the raw plant material, which separates the cannabinoids and terpenes from the plant. Then, this extract is concentrated using low, even heat until it’s reduced. From there, the oil concentrate is applied to a cooling agent, and it’s agitated and/or whipped, so you get a crumbly texture. This is where shatter and crumble differ, as with shatter, the oil is poured into a tray, to dry into a homogenous slab.
Crumble Pros & Cons:
Pros:
- Crumble contains a high concentration of terpenes and cannabinoids, whereas pure diamonds contain just a pure cannabinoid. Diamonds with sauce, of course, contain both.
- Crumble is relatively easy to work with as the texture is firmer, making transferring it easier.
Cons:
- Crumble is less potent in terms of cannabinoid content than diamonds, because diamonds are more purified forms of cannabinoids.
- Crumble is hard to add to vape oil formulas due to its crumbly texture.

Contender #2: THC Diamonds
Diamonds are cannabinoids in their most purified form, and name comes from the fact that when cannabinoids are concentrated into a crystalline form, they look just like diamonds, not only in shape and structure, but in color – something that’s very important to keep in mind, because cannabinoids do not have any color properties of their own. Basically, they should be clear-white. Naturally, cannabinoid diamonds are the most potent forms of cannabinoids that exist, even more so than crumble.
You will often see liquid diamonds on the market, and liquid diamonds refer to diamonds plus “sauce” – a terpene-rich extract made from live resin which undergoes a concentration process that’s not as intensive as making crumble. Live resin is another type of cannabis extract made by flash-freezing fresh cannabis flower, rather than dry-curing it, which is the more traditional method for preserving the plant’s buds.
The process of making live resin preserves the trichomes of the plant more effectively, and those trichomes carry the plant’s cannabinoids, terpenes, flavor, and aroma. Sauce is what happens when you heat live resin over a low temperature for long enough so that the extract thickens into a sticky, sauce-like consistency.
Diamonds Creation Process
Like with crumble, creating diamonds, and sauce (a byproduct of making diamond) also involves use of a solvent like butane to extract the cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids from the raw plant material after flash-freezing has occurred. Once enough low and steady heat is applied to the extract, the cannabinoids naturally begin to crystallize. At this stage, a small amount of solvent is left in the extract, to purge out for 48 hours. The result is an ultra-potent concentrate in which all of the THCA becomes crystallized, to create a visible separation between the THCA and the terpenes, as the latter maintains its liquid form.
Due to this unique and thorough process, what you end up with is 95-99% pure THCA diamonds, which are “harvested” from the live resin sauce. Now, the live resin sauce can be added back to the diamonds, or the diamonds can be sold separately, offering a terpene-free concentrate product.
Diamonds Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Diamonds offer the highest cannabinoid potency of any concentrate, for stronger effects.
- Liquid diamonds can be incorporated into vaping products like disposable vape pens and 510 cartridges more easily than crumble.
- The “sauce” component of liquid diamonds has more flavor as the terpenes are kept to a relatively low concentration, thus preserving their structural integrity as far as flavor molecules are concerned.
Cons:
- Liquid diamonds in particular can be messy due to their liquidy nature.
- Pure diamonds contain no terpenes, so you won’t be able to get any flavor, or strains from them.
Crumble or Diamonds: You Decide!
Ultimately, each cannabis user has their own preferences when it comes to which type of concentrate they prefer. And, you can see that as far as concentrates are concerned, diamonds (with or without sauce) and crumble are quite different. We encourage you to explore both of them at Binoid, in order to see for yourself what each one brings to your dabbing or vaping experience.
