Delta 9 THC vs. Delta 6 THC: Differences and Uses

We all know that the most iconic cannabinoid is delta 9 THC.  It’s the dominant cannabinoid in weed, and even has an enormous part in the plant’s famous effects, both of a therapeutic and recreational nature.  While we associate delta 9 with marijuana, this cannabinoid is also found in the hemp plant, offering the same blissful high and potential benefits.

Because there are so many cannabinoids on the market right now, we want to compare delta 9 to another THC cannabinoid – delta 6 THC, which is one of the newer additions to the ever-growing market.

Why Choose Hemp-Derived Delta 9 THC?

Delta 9 Origin

Delta 9 THC is easily the most widely used cannabinoid in cannabis.  The compound was first isolated in 1964, and is the dominant cannabinoid in the marijuana plant.  It’s also present in trace levels in hemp – about 0.3% or lower.  Delta 9 is probably the most extensively researched cannabinoid in cannabis.

Delta 9’s Psychoactive Properties

Delta 9 THC’s high is very well-known, thanks to its association with marijuana.  It’s not the strongest cannabinoid in the psychoactive sense, but it is still potent, and if you’re a beginner, it can surprise you given your low tolerance.  The high is both euphoric and relaxing, and can produce a powerful body high that is great for the muscles.

Delta 9’s Non-Psychoactive Properties

Delta 9 has been researched extensively since its discovery in the 1960s, and research into its potential therapeutic uses has been accelerated thanks to the medical marijuana market in the United States.  As of now, the most notable potential benefits of delta 9 are:

  • Nausea and Appetite: Studies show that delta 9 THC can improve appetite and reduce nausea, while also preventing actual vomiting due to nausea.
  • Mood: Research shows that delta 9 has a regulatory effect on the brain’s neurotransmitters, which can help balance our mood to make us feel more uplifted and optimistic, all while reducing our stress response.
  • Physical Discomfort: Delta 9 THC offers anti-inflammatory and analgesic that can lower physical discomfort throughout the body, according to a number of studies.
  • Neurological Balance: Delta 9 has been explored for its effects on multiple sclerosis and epilepsy thanks to the role that it plays in balancing neurological function.

Purpose for Taking Delta 9

Delta 9 is enjoyed all over the world, both because of its enjoyable, recreational psychoactive effects, and because it’s been proven to offer potential therapeutic uses that can improve quality of life.

Delta 9’s Legality

Under federal law, hemp products are only allowed to possess a maximum of 0.3% delta 9 THC by dry weight.  Thankfully, many hemp companies have developed ways to produce products that contain this legal limit, while still offering notable delta 9 effects, including the cannabinoid’s famous psychoactive high.  Marijuana-derived marijuana is federally legal, as are all marijuana derivatives.

Why Choose Delta 6 THC?

Delta 6 Origin

Delta 6 THC (not to be confused with delta 6a10a THC) is, by contrast, a cannabinoid that we know almost nothing about, out of all of the individual cannabinoids that have been isolated.  It is extremely trace, but naturally occurring.

Delta 6’s Psychoactive Properties

In fact, delta 6 THC’s psychoactive properties aren’t known just yet.  The cannabinoid was isolated so that researchers could test its therapeutic potential, and there hasn’t yet been any information out there about its intoxicating qualities.  Because it’s not available for sale yet, there isn’t any anecdotal data to reference, either.

Delta 6’s Non-Psychoactive Properties

Like we said, there’s pretty much no information about delta 6 THC, yet.  But, it has been suggested that delta 6 may offer anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) and anti-inflammatory properties.  This would be consistent with the majority of cannabinoids we’ve studied over the years, like delta 8 THC, delta 9 THC, and even CBD.  Hopefully, more research goes into this cannabinoid in the near future, so that we can understand it better.

Purpose for Taking Delta 6 THC

Delta 6 THC is not on the market yet.  We can, however, say that there’s a lot of promise when it comes to potential therapeutic uses, and if the cannabinoid does turn out to have satisfying psychoactive properties, that will obviously add to its appeal.

Delta 6’s Legality

Delta 6 is completely legal under federal law because it complies with the 2018 Farm Bill.  But, it’s banned in 19 states due to it being a THC cannabinoid, as a number of states have prohibited all THC-based compounds.  Currently, delta 6 THC is illegal in:

  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Colorado
  • Delaware
  • Hawaii
  • Idaho
  • Iowa
  • Maryland
  • Mississippi
  • Montana
  • Nevada
  • New York
  • North Dakota
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • Utah
  • Vermont
  • Washington

Final Decision: Delta 9 THC and Delta 6 THC – More Different Than You May Have Guessed

Basically, both delta 9 THC and delta 6 THC are valuable components of cannabis, but with the latter, we don’t know enough to offer an in-depth comparison to delta 9 THC.  The good news is that delta 9 THC is available to enjoy at Binoid, and once we learn more about delta 6 THC, we will be adding it to our growing collection of top-notch cannabinoid products.
