HHC-P Cannabinoid: Everything You Should Know

Currently, we’re seeing an influx of totally new cannabinoids making their way onto the hemp market, all coming from the hemp plant, yet totally distinctive in their effects, properties, psychoactive abilities and potency.  Because it can be tough to keep track of every single one, even as a seasoned hemp enthusiast, we’re going to simplify things by sharing the most interesting and essential “fun facts” about the cannabinoids people are seeking out the most.

What Makes HHC-P So Interesting?

Hexahydrocannabiphorol (HHC-P)”, if this cannabinoid sounds like it’s a cross between HHC (hexahydrocannabinol) and tetrahydrocannabiphorol (THC-P), well, it kinda is.  We’re still learning about HHC-P, but we already have a good understanding  of its basic characteristics, and which types of hemp users will enjoy those HHC-P products to the most and to this cannabinoid’s fullest potential.

So, let’s explore some fun facts you need to know about HHC-P.

Fact #1: HHC-P is a Hydrogenated Cannabinoid

HHC-P (hexahydrocannabiphorol) stands out in terms of its chemical structure because it’s hydrogenated, which means that it has the addition of a hydrogen atom on its carbon side chain that changes its entire chemical structure.  This might not seem that important to you, but it actually provides a very useful advantage – hydrogenated cannabinoids have a much better shelf life as they’re more chemically stable, meaning they’re less likely to break down rapidly when exposed to heat, oxygen, light and humidity, to stay potent and effective for a longer time than other hemp derivatives.

Fact #2: HHC-P is a Modified Form of HHC

HHC-P is actually a semi-synthesized form of HHC (hexahydrocannabinol), a naturally occurring cannabinoid in hemp.  Its chemical structure is rearranged in a lab to become roughly 10 times as potent as HHC.  HHC is known as almost a mirror image of delta 9, which is why it “feels” almost the same.  Taking HHC and making it 10x more potent makes it something that’s closer to THC-P, or tetrahydrocannabiphorol, an outstandingly powerful, natural derivative of the hemp plant.

Translation: Since HHC-P is the hydrogenated form of THC-P, it’s partly made of hydrogen, it’s extremely chemically stable, and yet still capable of delivering the same properties as THC-P.  Those who are familiar with HHC will understand the analogous relationship between HHC-P and THC-P, and HHC and delta 9 THC.

Fact #3: HHC-P’s High is Almost Identical to Delta 9, But Much Stronger

HHC-P is, as we established, about 10x as intoxicating as HHC, because it interacts with CB1 receptors in the brain at about 31x the rate of its predecessor.  And, that explains why HHC-P’s high feels incredibly intense, with waves of euphoria and a body high that can put every muscle at ease.  Given that, it’s not a high for total THC newbies.

Fact #4: The HHC-P in Your Product Probably Comes from CBD

HHC-P is made from HHC, which does exist in hemp naturally, but there’s only a very trace amount of it in hemp  – about 0.1% or less, like we said earlier – and that’s a ridiculously low concentration.  What this means is that to isolate HHC to make HHC-P, extracting enough of the cannabinoid to mass-produce products high in HHC-P, would demand an enormous amount of time, effort and raw plant material, not to mention money.

But, there’s a solution that’s a lot more efficient.  All cannabinoids are isomers of one another, since they are all derived from CBG (cannabigerol), aka the “mother cannabinoid” found in immature hemp plants.  Isomers have the exact same atomic structures as one another, yet they’re arranged differently.  This means that simply rearranging the atoms in one cannabinoid converts it into an entirely different one.

Isomerization is a common method generally used to produce all cannabinoid distillates other than CBD.  CBD, aka cannabidiol, is the only cannabinoid in hemp that’s very abundant, making up around 20% of the entire composition of the plant.  Isolating CBD is very simple and inexpensive because of this, and thus, rearranging its molecules can produce a true and pure delta 9 distillate which is ready to go into different products.

Fact #5: HHC Might Offer Very Distinctive Potential Therapeutic Uses

Like we said, HHC is basically identical to delta 9 THC – just a more shelf-stable form.  Beyond their chemical makeups being almost exactly the same, as well as their psychoactive effects, HHC seems to mimic delta 9 in terms of its potential therapeutic uses as well – not surprising since the cannabinoids basically work with the endocannabinoid in the same way, being structurally similar to one another.  So, HHC-P, being intensely more potent than “regular” HHC, may offer even more profound effects on things like nausea, discomfort, low appetite, poor mood, poor sleep and so on.

HHC-P: You’re Looking at a Real Stand-Out Cannabinoid

Overall, HHC-P is a totally one-of-a-kind cannabinoid that comes with potentially powerful uses and possible benefits.  And, of course, it’s high can be extremely satisfying to someone seeking out an absolutely powerful experience.  The best part is, HHC-P is completely federally legal, so enjoy it however you see fit.
