Can You Build A Tolerance For HHC-P Cannabinoid?

Lots of people it seems, are interested in trying hexahydrocannabiphorol (HXC-P or “HHC-P”, one of the newer cannabinoids on the market, which’s known for its intensely potent high.  And, given how it’s such a new cannabinoid, it’s not surprising that people are asking a lot of questions about it.  One question is whether or not a person can build up a tolerance to its effects over time, so we’re going to try to answer that to the best of our ability, based on everything we know about the cannabinoid so far.

First, Understanding the Basics of HXC-P

Hexahydrocannabiphorol is a chemically modified version hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) – a naturally occurring cannabinoid in hemp that’s known for being almost identical to delta 9 THC with the exception of an additional hydrogen atom.  HHC, unsurprisingly, behaves quite similar to delta 9, and HXC-P was created by enhancing the number of carbon atoms on the cannabinoid’s side chain, instantly making this cannabinoid more potent – about 10x as potent, as a matter of fact.  The euphoric yet soothing high makes HXC-P an extremely sought-after option on the hemp market today.

What Determines a Person’s Tolerance?

Let’s discuss tolerance, since it’s actually a pretty complex concept.  Tolerance, of course, refers to how much the body “tolerates” a certain substance, and our tolerance to something usually increases the more we take it – think of alcohol, or coffee, which felt far more potent the first time we consumed them, compared to later on when we’ve become frequent consumers.

There are actually a number of factors that influence a person’s tolerance to HXC-P, and cannabinoids in general.

Factor #1: How Long They’ve Been Using the Cannabinoid

Like we said, the longer a person is using a certain substance, the more their tolerance increases, in general.  If you’ve been taking HXC-P daily for a year, you’re likely not going to feel its impact as strongly as you did the first time you took it.  Now, that doesn’t mean that it won’t get you high anymore.  It just means that you won’t necessarily feel knocked out by it like you may have when you were a first-time user.

Factor #2: How Much They Generally Take

The amount that a person takes matters as well.  If you’ve been consuming just, say, one puff of an HXC-P vape for a while, then your tolerance generally won’t grow as quickly as it would if you were going through a cart every 2 days.

Factor #3: How Frequently They’ve Been Using it

Frequency matters as well, which probably goes without saying.  Taking a dropper of an HXC-P tincture once a week means your tolerance will build more slowly than if you were taking it twice daily.

Factor #4: Their Endocannabinoid System

Your endocannabinoid system (ECS) is unique, with its own distinctive configuration of cannabinoid receptors.  Research on the endocannabinoid system is still quite young, but many have theorized that some people are naturally more tolerant to the effects of cannabinoids than others based on the sensitivity of their cannabinoid receptors.

Factor #5: Physiological Factors

Our tolerance to cannabinoids can waver over time depending on what’s going on in our bodies.  For example, some people find that they get less high when they have a full stomach, and that doesn’t just apply to taking edibles.  Another thing that’s commonly reported is that tolerance to a cannabinoid can increase during menstruation due to the relationship between the endocannabinoid system and hormone levels.

Can You Develop a Tolerance to HXC-P’s Effects?

Now, to answer the main question, “yes”, you can build a tolerance to HXC-P’s effects, just like you can with delta 9 or any other intoxicating cannabinoid.  Just how much of a tolerance a person develops is completely unique to them, as is the length of time during which it takes to build that tolerance.  But, you may find that after a while of frequent use, you’re not getting as high off of HXC-P as you used to.  This is natural, and the good news is that you can bring your tolerance back down if it has gotten too high.

What Should You Do if You Think Your Tolerance is Getting Too High?

In the event that you’re just not getting the same potent HXC-P effects that you used to, there are ways to decrease your tolerance.  Try one of these tried-and-true methods below.

Method #1: Take a Tolerance Break

A tolerance break is a very popular go-to when those cannabinoids just aren’t hitting like they used to.  Basically, you just take some time off from cannabis overall – it can be a week, or longer, depending on your goals – and then when you finally go back to it, it hits you like you’re a beginner.  If you don’t want to stop using cannabinoids completely, try switching to another cannabinoid for a while – that can be all that you need to get your HXC-P tolerance back to where you want it to be.

Method #2: Switch Up the Strain

You can also try switching up the strain, if you’re using a product that comes in different strains, such as a vape, or flower.  A lot of people find that they get a tolerance to the strain faster than they do the cannabinoid, and simply trying a new strain gets them back to the tolerance level they want.

Method #3: Switch Up the Product Type

Finally, switching the HXC-P product type can make a difference.  More specifically, choosing a new delivery method can give you the lower tolerance you’re looking for.  Each product type absorbs differently – tinctures sublingually, edibles through ingestion, vapes through inhalation, and so on – and our body can get used to one absorption method if we use it frequently enough.  Trying a new delivery method, like going from vapes to edibles, can surprise you in terms of how strongly the cannabinoid affects you.

You Might Build a Tolerance to HXC-P, But it’s Not the End of the World

Ultimately, you really can’t avoid developing a tolerance to psychoactive cannabinoids, but at the same time, that doesn’t mean that you’ll never be able to enjoy their full potential once you become a regular user.  And, in essence, some people never build a strong tolerance, and keep on getting the same effects that they did when they first started taking HXC-P products.  The key is that you should rely on the methods above should your tolerance get too high, as they’re known to be perfectly effective.
