Delta 9 THC is the OG of psychoactive cannabinoids, and one that many of us have experienced in various forms. We all know the many positive effects we can get from delta 9 THC, but at the same time, many of us have experienced the mild, temporary side effects of delta 9 at some point or another as well. Fortunately, the common side effects that can come with taking too much delta 9 THC are generally easy to reverse, so that you can savor all of the positives of the cannabinoid without any disruptions.

Can Hemp-Derived Delta 9 THC’s Side Effects Be Dangerous?
Anyone with a low tolerance and/or high sensitivity to psychoactive cannabinoids may get worried that taking too much will lead to disastrous consequences. The thing that is important to keep in mind is that these cannabinoids are nontoxic to adult human bodies, and so you will not experience life-threatening side effects because you got too high.
These cannabinoids are well tolerated by the human body, and then metabolize relatively quickly to leave the system in a short period of time. We know that getting too high can make you worry that something is wrong – maybe your heart is suddenly racing, you feel dizzy, or you feel so out of it that you’re afraid you’ll feel that way forever. But, just remember that your body can handle these cannabinoids because you have an endocannabinoid system (ECS), which prevents toxic effects from occurring.
Note: Poorly made hemp-derived delta 9 products, such as those that use low-grade delta 9 THC, have a purity level below 90%, use other cheap ingredients & fillers that’re mixed with the delta 9, and/or simply fake delta 9 products, do bring with them a higher chance of not only different side effects, but the potential to actually get sick after using that said supposedly “authentic or fresh delta 9 product”.
Delta 9 THC Side-Effects You Need to Be Aware of
Now, there are some more temporary, mild side effects that you might experience due to a low tolerance. While simply taking a moderate dose according to the label can prevent them from happening, they can happen on occasion, and it’s best to have an idea of what you can do should a side effect impede your ability to enjoy the delta 9 THC product you’ve taken.
Side Effect #1: Anxiety
Delta 9 has been recognized to cause anxiety in some people. How come? Well, because delta-9 activates the identical areas of the brain just like delta 8 does. These areas are in charge of triggering feelings of fear and anxiety.
The Solution: If you’re prone to anxiety, it’s best to avoid delta 9 altogether. If you do decide to try it, go with an extremely small dose and see how you react.
Side Effect #2: Dizziness/Lightheadedness
One of the things that happens when we’re high is that our blood pressure decreases – not to a dangerous extent, but enough to be noticeable. The thing is that it can be uncomfortable because of the symptoms that it causes, which typically feel like dizziness or lightheadedness. A person may also feel shaky, look pale or feel like their hands and feet are cold.
The Solution: Again, sugar is your friend. Low blood pressure can be quickly remedied by something sweet, like fruit juice or a cookie. That’s because it brings up your blood sugar levels quickly, and your blood pressure will go up as well. It’s also the reason why you’re usually given something sugary after drawing blood.
Side Effect #3: Dry Mouth
Cottonmouth is incredibly common with delta 9, even among heavy users. It’s definitely not dangerous, but it might be annoying. One thing to know is that a very dry mouth is not in fact caused by dehydration, but by the delta 9’s effects on cannabinoid receptors that control the production of saliva. The effect is very temporary, but you’ll likely want to do something about it regardless, because having a dry mouth is just uncomfortable.
The Solution: Easy – drink a glass of water. All that you need to do to combat a mouth that’s dry is provide it with moisture, so keep a glass or bottle of water nearby and drink as needed. This will also activate the salivary glands so that you can produce more saliva.
Side Effect #4: Grogginess
Feeling groggy or sleepy while high on delta 9 is an incredibly common effect. It’s because cannabinoids work on neurotransmitters in the brain that control our energy levels, our mental alertness and even our sleep/wake cycle, so it’s far from unusual to suddenly feel a strong desire to lay down and close your eyes. Of course, this can be an issue if you need to stay awake because you have something you need to tend to.
The Solution: You can always take a nap if you need to, but if that’s not an option, just grab some coffee which will wake your nervous system right up, so you’ll feel alert, energized and ready to take on the day once again.
Side Effect #5: Dry Eyes
Most of us know that classic dry-eye effect that comes with getting high – in other words, that red, puffy look, and the feeling of absolutely no moisture when we blink. This effect isn’t just annoying in terms of how it feels, but it makes us look clearly stoned, which we might want to avoid. It’s the result of the cannabinoid interacting with cannabinoid receptors that control the moisture level of our eyes, so it’s not actually a cause for concern.
The Solution: Just have some saline eye drops with you, as they’re formulated specifically for dry eyes. A couple of drops in each eye is all that you need to get the relief you’re looking for.
Side Effect #6: Getting Too High
It’s something we’ve all experienced at some point – we consume a little more delta 9 than we should have, and suddenly we’re feeling uncomfortably intoxicated. Perhaps we start getting paranoid, anxious or claustrophobic, or feel dissociated from our bodies to a very uncomfortable extent. Because Delta 9 THC is so incredibly potent, it’s all the easier to get higher than you had planned for.
The Solution: There are actually a few ways to deal with the effects of getting too high, and they mainly revolve around consuming something that jumpstarts your nervous system to “wake you up.” Grab anything stimulating, like a sweet snack, caffeine or fruit juice, since this will make your nervous system feel more “normal”.
Side Effect #7: Increased Appetite
Delta 9 could increase appetite, similar to delta 8 and this effect is brought about by the activation of the same brain areas which’re responsible for regulating hunger.
The Solution: If you’re attempting to shed some unnecessary pounds, delta 9 is probably not the best option for you.
Side Effect #8: Nausea & Vomiting
Delta 9 can cause nausea and vomiting, similar to delta 8. This effect is caused by the activation of the same brain areas that’re responsible for regulating nausea and vomiting.
The Solution: If you’re already prone to nausea, then certainly begin with an extremely small dose and see how you react.
These Side Effects Don’t Always Have to Stop You From Using Hemp-Derived Delta 9 THC Again
These side effects are definitely not uncommon but aren’t dangerous either. Still, the best way to avoid them is to make an effort to follow directions on your hemp-derived delta 9 product’s label, which provides clear dosing directions, so you don’t unintentionally take too much.
Also, if you do experience any of these side effects, it’s recommended that you speak with your doctor, since they’re medically licensed to give you advice as to what you should then do. At Binoid, you’ll find that we offer dosing directions for all of our hemp-derived delta 9 products, to make sure you take just the right amount to feel deeply satisfied.
