THC-H vs. CBDH Cannabinoids: What’s The Difference?

Now that you have hopefully explored tetrahydrocannabiphorol (THC-P), THC-O-acetate (THC-O), and hexahydrocannabinol (HHC), it is time to get your hands on two newer cannabinoids to hit the scene: tetrahydrocannabihexol (THC-H) and cannabidihexol (CBDH)

Given the fact that they are derivatives of THC and CBD, respectively, you can already probably draw some conclusions about how they differ from one another, and a general sense of the properties they contain, psychoactive and otherwise.  But, as they’re slowly making their way onto the market, it’s important to have a more thorough understanding of their differences and similarities to decide if either one is a good choice for adding to your existing hemp rotation of cannabinoids.

THC-H

Origin

Tetrahydrocannabihexol was discovered in 2020 by a team of Italian researchers analyzing a strain of cannabis.  In fact, the same team that discovered THC-H discovered tetrahydrocannabiphorol less than a year prior.  THC-H has a 6 alkyl side chain, hence the “hexol” in the name, and that’s about the extent to which we know of its characteristics at the moment.

Psychoactive Properties

One thing we do know about tetrahydrocannabihexol is that it could be profoundly psychoactive – the second most intoxicating cannabinoid after tetrahydrocannabiphorol – based on how strongly it binds to CB1 receptors in the brain that are responsible for the general psychoactive response of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) compounds.  More notably, many users describe its high as strikingly euphoric, which could be good news for those who want to experience the more uplifting properties that THC is capable of.  A lot of people also report a powerful body high effect that induces couch lock for quite a while.

Non-Psychoactive Properties

As for the non-psychoactive properties of tetrahydrocannabihexol, we actually don’t really know much at all.  Back in December of 2019, when THC-P was discovered, the scientists analyzing it found that it had a lot of similarities in common with delta 9 THC, and thus likely offered the same types of benefits pertaining to pain, nausea, appetite and mood.  But, THC-H has yet to be given the same level of analysis, which means that while it certainly does have properties relating to the endocannabinoid system, we just don’t know what they are yet.

CBDH

Origin

Cannabidihexol was discovered alongside tetrahydrocannabihexol, and also gets its name from its 6 alkyl side chain responsible for the “hexol” at the end.  We don’t know how much CBDH occurs in hemp just yet, nor THC-H for that matter, but we know that CBDH is more abundant in the strain that was analyzed by the researchers, since they were able to study it more easily as they had a larger sample of it.

Psychoactive Properties

Cannabidihexol is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid, since it’s a derivative of cannabidiol (CBD), a cannabinoid known to possess no psychoactive capabilities.

Non-Psychoactive Properties

As the researchers were able to explore cannabidihexol more intensively, they were able to determine one thing about it that already shows enormous promise: it seems to boast incredible analgesic effects according to a study done on mice, which determined that the cannabinoid may offer the strongest pain-fighting abilities derived from the hemp plant overall.  Naturally, that can’t be the only thing that CBDH is capable of, and so more research will almost certainly show that there is more to this cannabinoid in the near future.

Choosing Between the Two Cannabinoids

Keep in mind that there’s no reason why you can’t experiment with both cannabinoids at different times, as neither is toxic to the human body, nor is it dangerous to mix two hemp-derived cannabinoids together unless they’re going to cause a powerful high so strong that it inhibits with one’s ability to drive or operate machinery.  Overall, however, the biggest determining factor is what kind of experience you’re looking for.

  • If pain relief is your goal, CBDH shows a lot of promise.
  • If you’re interested in exploring a powerful high complete with a strong sense of euphoria, THC-H might be the cannabinoid to try.

Neither compound has been singled out in any state’s legislation just yet, as they’re both too new.  But, they are both protected by the Farm Bill, which legalized all cannabinoids other than delta 9 THC back in 2018.  While CBDH is non-psychoactive and therefore poses no threat to lawmakers, THC-H may be banned in the following states that have put blanket laws in place against psychoactive hemp derivatives:

  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Colorado
  • Delaware
  • Idaho
  • Iowa
  • Mississippi
  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • Rhode Island
  • Utah
  • Vermont

Where Can I Find THC-H and CBDH Products?

For the time-being, both cannabinoids are incredibly hard to find on the market.  They’re so new that companies haven’t had much time to formulate and test their own THC-H and CBDH products.  But, that could very well change in the near future.  The demand is already quite high as cannabinoid enthusiasts are reading up on what each one can offer.

Right now, Binoid is releasing THC-H products that are made with lab-tested hemp extracts, pure and clean ingredients and organic plant material, to ensure only the highest-quality and most effective THC-H possible.  So, if you want to find THC-H from a brand that you already know you can trust, explore our THC-H products, which we will continue to expand upon in the coming months as more and more interest in the cannabinoid develops.

Two New Cannabinoids: Which One Should You Go With Then?

Both THC-H and CBDH are exciting additions to our already broad understanding of the hemp plant, and each one offers its own powerful effects that can be enormously useful in our day-to-day lives, whether we’re craving a psychoactive cannabinoid or one that doesn’t get us high at all.  What all of this means is that many users may be able to reach their hemp-related goals like never before thanks to the fascinating properties we’re uncovering about both of these naturally occurring compounds.
